Mobile Optimist Club Scholarships

The Mobile Optimist Club will offer two $ 2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Mobile County High Schools who will be attending college in the Fall of 2008. The George E. Hartwell Scholarship will be awarded to a male student and the George H. Pierce Scholarship will be awarded to a female student. These scholarships are named in memory of distinguished long-time members of the Mobile Optimist Club in recognition for their outstanding service to youth of our community.

Applicants need an ACT score of 18 or higher and a high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher to receive consideration for these awards. In addition to these academic minimum requirements, important criteria for the award of these scholarships include participation in service to community and/or service within schools. These criteria are important to the Mobile Optimist Club as our mission is to promote service to the community and the youth of the Mobile.

Students will need to submit the following items to aply for the scholarships: a completed formal application form; a copy of the applicant's school transcript; written recommendation from a sponsor (high school counselor, club leader, pastor, etc.); Federal Student Financial Aid report (FAFSA), or a copy of parent's 2007 income tax return; and a completed "Scholarship Questionnaire" (also available from this website).
